Well, they finally did it — Big Bird is small now.

For reasons unknown, the official Big Bird X/Twitter account has been tweeting as though Big Bird has shrunk down to a minuscule size. This shouldn’t be important, as Big Bird is a made-up character for children, but it does beg the question of whether we should still call him Big Bird if he is no longer big. “Small Bird” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

This continued into yesterday, where the Bird showed himself encountering a spider. In the post, he floated the possible name “Bird” (it’s a loser, imo) before asking viewers for help. The post concludes, “#HelpBigBird.”

Users on X/Twitter were quick to share their thoughts and theories about Big Bird’s shrinkage.

Personally, I think Snuffleupagus is to blame. Big Bird’s last post before turning small was a retweet of this: a challenge to determine whether Big Bird or Snuffleupagus was taller. My theory is that Snuffleupagus lost this battle and became so enraged that he hired someone to shrink Big Bird.

It’s either that, or this is all just a weird subplot for a fictional children’s TV show. I’ll let you decide for yourselves.
