An Airplane Had to Turn Around Because Someone Dropped Their Laptop Between the Seats
They’re getting reaaaaally cautious these days.

After months of airplanes falling apart and tumbling out of the sky — combined with staffing shortages in the regulatory agencies meant to prevent that sort of thing — it’s safe to say that airlines are getting a little nervous about their ability to keep planes up in the air.
That’s why, when there’s even the slightest indication that something could go wrong on a flight, airlines are now acting with an abundance of caution.
For example, a recent United Airlines flight carrying over 200 people from Virginia to Rome turned around after someone dropped their laptop between the seats and couldn’t get it out.
If you’re thinking, “How does that justify turning the whole plane around?,” it’s because the laptop, like pretty much every laptop, had a lithium battery. There’s always a slim chance that these can burst into flames, so the airline decided to turn the plane around until the device could be safely recovered.
Remember: If your laptop falls between the seats, tell a flight attendant, and they’ll be happy to ruin everyone’s day by flipping the flight around until you can sort your life out. That, or you just keep it to yourself until you land.
