Fort Lauderdale Florida is in the midst of historic flooding, with its 25.91 inches of rain over a 24 hour period the most in the area's history. Meteorologist Ana Torres-Vazquez from the weather service’s Miami forecast office described the rainfall as a “1-in-1,000 year event, or greater.” Over one hour on Wednesday, the region received a full month's worth of rain.
Flood warnings were in place throughout Broward county until noon today, and the water wrecked havoc across neighborhoods, roads, and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. As is becoming the trend with modern natural disasters, shocking footage of the flood has been posted across social media. Here are some of the most extraordinary videos.
Perhaps the most striking video comes from the Twitter account @douglasthron777, who used a drone to capture footage of cars stranded in Ft. Lauderdale's downtown.

Other clips showed cars semi-submerged, and floating down the street.

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was also closed until noon today, and this striking video of a Frontier jet taxiing through water shows why.

Fort Lauderdale airport is completely underwater and the El Nino system hasn't even hit yet. From what I've seen the fascist Ron DeSantis isn't even in the state. "Where's Ron" is trending because he's more worried about running for office. pic.twitter.com/iU0rSL1oLC

Thankfully, there are currently no reports of major injuries or deaths as a result of the flooding. The Broward county area is predicted to experience more rainfall in the coming days, however not to the same severity as Wednesday's storm. Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis outlined the cleanup efforts, but claimed that many areas will need to drain naturally. He also stated that Florida governor "DeSantis has not yet called."
