Airlines Are Now Feeding Air Traffic Controllers to Entice Them Back to Work

I know you’re not getting paid — but would a microwaved sandwich sweeten the deal?

We’re now several weeks into the government shutdown, and if you thought that our social and practical infrastructure was in a bad state before, welcome to the dumb reality the rest of us have been living in.

The past few weeks have seen major upsets in everyday life. One of the ways that this has manifested for the everyday American is via airports, which have somehow become worse than they already were.

Basically, federal workers don’t get paid during the shutdown — which means that everyone you see at the airport is basically volunteering with the *hope* that they’ll get paid when this is all over (legally, they’re supposed to, but Trump has signalled that there could be people who don’t get paid. In short: who knows?)

This has resulted in many government workers finding basically any way they can to get out of working. Now, airlines are trying to coax them back to work — by giving them food.

As reported by CBS News, United, Delta, American Airlines, and others have all made arrangements to feed essential air traffic control and other related staff after the workers missed their first payday. While most airlines did not mention the specific kind of food donated (we can assume it’s leftover chicken and broccoli from the international flights), American Airlines *did* go out of their way to specify that they were giving airport workers pizza. Hey, good for them.
