According to the actor's official Twitter account, James Caan passed away last night. The details aren't yet clear. The actor's career had spanned multiple decades, but by far his most renowned work was The Godfather Trilogy. He also starred next to Kathy Bates in the Stephen King film adaptation of Misery.
Here is the official announcement.

We'll keep you posted on any other news as it comes our way. It's safe to say James is another talent in a long list of those who we've lost, that are gone far too soon. Even though he lived to be 82 years of age, he will definitely be missed.
One of my favorite James Caan stories is from his time working on Elf. According to Looper, On his first day on set, Caan gave a speech in which he asked to be called Jimmy the Dream. The production department changed Caan's chair to his new nickname overnight.
The actor started his career in the early sixties and had just finished shooting a new mob movie entitled Fast Charlie, which is now in post-production.
His other notable works include The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Dick Tracy.
Rest in Peace, James Caan.
